The October 13th debate in the race for Colorado’s empty Senate seat is just around the corner. Republican incumbent Cory Gardner and Democrat John Hickenlooper will appear in the only debate to be televised statewide.
It’s our chance to make sure Colorado lawmakers hear our demands that the violence stop and justice for Elijah be served.
Hickenlooper admitted he didn’t go far enough to reform police conduct in Denver when he was mayor. He even embraced policing policies now understood to disproportionately target communities of color. This year, Gardner defended the JUSTICE Act, saying it would improve law enforcement with transparency, accountability, and commonsense reforms. But no changes have been made.
The people of Colorado already said they support police reform. Now, it’s time for action. We want Gardner and Hickenlooper to tell us how they plan to prevent more deaths like Elijah’s.
The candidates must remember that 5.5 million people are still demanding justice for Elijah.
