Stop the demolition of Wacky World playground at C.T. Plunkett School

The Issue

Wacky World has been a cherished playground since its construction nearly twenty years ago. Built by members of the community in an effort that brought people together for the purpose of creating a playground that could be used for years and years, Wacky World has been a place of fun and memories for thousands of children. As someone who was a student at CTP when Wacky World was first opened, I hoped that someday my own children would be able to enjoy the playground that my father helped build. Now, that wonderful place is about to be torn down because it's simply too inconvenient to spend a little bit more to refurbish it. It can be done; there are many, many people who would love to see Wacky World's legacy continue. Many who once played on its wooden palisades and tire structures would be more than willing to pitch in to help fix it and restore it to a safe, well-maintained state. I have created this petition to show the ACRSD that Wacky World's destruction should not be taken lightly, and it should be reconsidered before such a special place is wiped out forever.

I appreciate your concerns on the demolition of Wacky World. If you recall I was the Principal of Plunkett School when this project was conceived and built. It was a wonderful experience of a community coming together for the benefit of students. I certainly have the same memories and feelings that you are sharing. I would like to clarify that the decision wasn’t based on the fact that it was simply too inconvenient to spend a little time to refurbish it. The district has been attempting to make repairs and address the safety concerns raised by the school each year. Unfortunately, after over twenty years the condition of the playground seems to be costly to repair. With that being said, I’d like to extend an invitation to be put your group on the school committee agenda for Monday, October 22nd at 6:30 at Cheshire School. You can share your concerns with the committee and we can provide the district’s assessment of the needs of the playground. Please let me know by Thursday---thanks Al Skrocki
