Did you know that Instagram incorrectly disables hundreds of accounts each month without logic or reason?

Just last month, I had 11,600 views of my Medium article, How I Reactivated My Disabled Instagram Account in 3 Days. That's an average of 387 views per day!

Imagine having collected hundreds of photos and followers only to wake up one morning to find your account has been deactivated. That effectively means you've been blocked from accessing it and your profile is no longer visible, causing you to lose all of your photos and connections to your followers.

Not to mention, when you try to reactivate your account, you can't do so because the Instagram and Facebook appeal system is broken!

Please join me in signing this petition asking Instagram to fix their broken system:

Goal 1: Add Human Interaction to the Support Process

  • Reduce the activity of bots which merely flag accounts, and hire humans who can act or ignore the accounts that were flagged while also helping you get your account back.
  • Allow users to speak with a human either on the phone or over email. The automated responses we currently get only result in frustration and upset.
  • When a user submits one of the forms, a human should respond within 3-7 days with steps you can take to reactivate your account.
  • Use their email account (support@instagram.com) so customers can chat with a customer service representative.

Goal 2: Make Rules Transparent & Provide a Warning Before Suspending/Banning

  • Issue a transparent set of rules, guidelines, and terms for users to follow and then provide at least one warning with a link to the broken rule before suspending or banning an account.
  • Instagram can debug and straighten out their automated system which flags accounts to be banned.
Unfortunately, right now if enough you piss off a group of people (bullies, competitors, spammers) and they decide to unjustly report you as a spammer, you can get your account banned.
  • Instagram can test and debug their appeal system to ensure users CAN reactivate their accounts.

How did I get around to this big old petition? Well, Instagram disabled my business account after a few days. I tried everything and actually got my account back. I wrote a detailed account of that process in a Medium article entitled, How I Reactivated My Disabled Instagram Account in 3 Days and it has gone viral. Its performance statistics include:

  • Ranking 4th place on Google if you search, "Reactivate Disabled Instagram".
  • As of today, May 20, 2020, it has been viewed more than 684,000 times since I wrote it back in January 15, 2016.
  • I've received hundreds of messages from other people who have also had their accounts disabled having trouble with their Instagram accounts.
