Petition updateDon't down our petitions

A luke warm response and two more 'hot stories'

On 22nd May I emailed the 38 degrees team. I received a reply on the 26th May which offered up (again) Babbs' Guardian article and blog, and 'Joe's email, with their various excuses. The email expressed the wish that those links made 38 degrees' reasoning clear. To me, it merely made it clear they had a problem. They may well deserve sympathy. Who knows? But I was after a message I could include in a petition update. It arrived on 1st June: "We've taken this feedback on board, and it's quite possible that any future situations like this may be handled differently, based on the feedback received and the individual circumstances at the time." 'quite possible' and 'may'. So that's how effective petitions are. MORE PRO-TORY BIAS Since then we saw the Guardian and all the other usual suspects howling in dismay because an audience of Momentum people had the nerve to 'boo' Laura Kuessnberg (briefly) at a political meeting. Wow. People going 'boo' at a political meeting. How unusual. That would never happen, for example, in the House of Commons, would it? And that story - the unspeakable rudeness of Momentum people, made far, far more noise in the corporate media and the BBC than the public demand - via a range of petitions and actions, to end Laura Kuessnberg's daily blarts of toryism on the BBC. MORE AND MORE PRO-TORY BIAS And yesterday, another stunning example. For over FOUR MONTHS, small armies of people all over the country have been trying to get to the bottom of the #toryelectionfraud situation, more recently, with enthusiastic reporting from Channel 4 and The Daily Mirror. (If you want to join in, here's a good starting point http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/part-daily-mirror-peoples-electoral-8041095 ). This week, the Tories found what they hoped was a shred of a defence, and attempted to counter-accuse other parties. Instantly, the story hit the BBC. When it's not the Tories in the dock, it's a story. So I took another look at our petition. It's still nowhere near the figure of the one 38 degrees downed, so I decided an update was due.
