Burroughs, Burbank & Monterey HS Graduation Ceremony Class of 2020
The Issue
The Class of 2020 from our local High Schools in the Burbank School District have had an incredibly impact with the school closures due to the coronavirus, this community and our students have faced these challenges head on, but the achievements of our graduating seniors are getting lost among all the noise caused by the events of this school year.
By signing this petition, we are asking our community leaders and the Burbank Unified School District to still hold graduation ceremonies for our seniors of the 2019-2020 school year. Recognizing that there are still far greater issues we face at the moment in dealing with the coronavirus and the safer at home mandate. However, once this is over and everything returns to normal, and it will, we as a community need to recover and rebuild our community economically, resume our daily lives and re-acquaint ourselves within our community and among our neighbors. A big part of this is sending off this communities young adults from the class of 2020 in recognition of all their hard work from kindergarten to this point. We are asking our community leaders and the Burbank Unified School District to commit to holding commencement ceremonies for all our local high school students once the safer at home mandate is over and it is safe for us as a community to do so.
Whether these ceremonies take place in June, July, August or beyond, it is important for us to celebrate the young adults of this community and recognize their achievement. This class of 2020 needs to be shown that we stand behind them as a community and we recognize the hard work they put in to get to this point. Further, by celebrating Burroughs HS Burbank HS and Monterey HS class of 2020 graduating seniors, it will be an important step towards coming back together as a community and let our seniors Class of 2020 know all their hard work paid off and give them their so well deserve ceremony.
