Acupuncture for All

The Issue

*The Acupuncture for All bill is a gateway to accessible, cost-efficient, cross-culturally aware and trauma informed preventative healthcare services and careers for all New Yorkers.*

1. We’ve developed the AcuTech program to allow acupuncture services and careers to be more accessible to underserved communities in NY.

- The AcuTech program and Healthy Outcomes Protocol would require less than  1/10th of the clinical training time and less than 1/60th of the cost of Masters level acupuncture school training. The cost and time differential would allow working people to receive the certification as well as folks who can’t afford a $60,000 plus degree. The 200hr training program would allow folks to immediately begin working in our flagship Acupuncture Nation clinic and qualify to work in clinical practices and settings as support to Licensed and Certified Acupuncturist Programs or start a clinic or private practice alongside an Licensed or Certified Acupuncturist.

2. Towards that end we’ve developed the Healthy Outcomes Protocol (HOP) [Twelve (12) points - Ear points: Sympathetic, Shen Men, KD, HT, ST, LV, Hunger / Body points: LV3, LI4, ST36, YT, GV20] to treat the priority public health killer syndromes of our time (which we know disproportionately affect communities of color & underserved communities and cost the city and state trillions). Our protocol complements biomedical treatment in a cost efficient way and provides a cost efficient & accessible foundation for preventative healthcare, relieving & aiding in the treatment of Chronic Pain, Emotional distress, Stress, Trauma, Addiction and Recovery (reducing pain medication use & dependence).

- We are limiting the training to a single standardized protocol/procedure that involves the safest easiest to use acupuncture points.

- These points are also the most practical because they are the most effective at treating and managing symptoms of the widest array of conditions in the most diverse populations.

All AcuTechs will be required to train and work under the supervision of a licensed or certified acupuncturist in order to assure safety and  provide access to treatment for complex conditions by qualified professionals. This will also exponentially increase access to a diverse array of sustainable jobs for licensed acupuncturist.

3. We’ve developed a 200hr accessible, cross-cultural and trauma-informed entry level AcuTech training program (using basic EMT training as a guide) to allow acupuncture training, careers in preventative healthcare and decentralized healthcare access to become more accessible to New Yorkers of all socioeconomic, cultural, ethnic and educational backgrounds.

- An AcuTech would not be able to utilize the full array of acupuncture points or treat highly complex conditions that require utilizing more invasive needling skills or points over major vessels or organs which require more training. But their supervising licensed or certified acupuncturist would be on hand to treat those conditions or provide referrals to further specialized care.

*New Yorkers are in desperate need of the Acupuncture for All program and Healthy Outcomes Protocol at this exact point in time. The combined impact of the opioid epidemic, followed by the psychological, economic and healthcare impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic have left our citizens and healthcare providers at increased risk for debilitating chronic conditions. Widely available AcuTechs and accessible acupuncture services are the most cost-efficient way to mitigate, relieve and address Trauma, Stress and Pain, prevent Addiction and support Recovery.*
