Restore the functionality of the GHTunes servers in Guitar Hero: World Tour

Restore the functionality of the GHTunes servers in Guitar Hero: World Tour

The Issue

The two achievements associated with the GHTunes service in Guitar Hero: World Tour, "Feeding the Beast" and "Download Junkie," cannot be unlocked due to the GHTunes service being discontinued some time in August of 2011 (most likely August 28). While the closing of console games' servers is in no way unprecedented, companies that have closed servers and inadvertently discontinued the player's ability to unlock the associated achievements, such as EA has on several occasions, have generally alerted the game-playing audience a month before their planned closing of the servers.

Activision Blizzard and Neversoft (the developers of Guitar Hero: World Tour) did not conduct such an action, instead closing the GHTunes severs without so much as a whimper of notice for the game-playing audience.

This petition is not for Activision and/or Neversoft to restore the GHTunes servers, as the title of the petition may suggest. Instead, we are asking that Activision release a Title Update for Guitar Hero: World Tour that would make all players unlock the aforementioned achievements immediately upon logging into Guitar Hero: World Tour. While most publishers and/or developers would have never considered such an action before, mostly due to the costly nature of issuing a new patch over Xbox Live, Microsoft recently revised their policies as to make the issuing of Title Updates free.

The game-playing audience's inability to unlock these achievements may seem like an inconsequential matter; why would we care so much about a couple dumb achievements? However, our ability to successfully unlock a game's achievements composes an absolutely essential part of the game-playing experience for many players in the achievement-related online communities, such as TrueAchievements and Xbox360Achievements. Now that Title Updates are free to distribute over Xbox Live, we feel that there is absolutely no reason for action on Activision's part to not be conducted concerning our inability to unlock these achievements, especially when no original notice was given as to the GHTunes servers' closure.

If such a global action on the issue cannot be taken by Activision or Neversoft for whatever reason, we ask that the stated parties provide some outlet for those concerned gamers to unlock the achievements on a case-to-case basis, such as was done when representatives from DICE helped players unlock the glitched "I am Bad Company" in Battlefield: Bad Company on a case-to-case basis.
