Action plan to combat HATE

Action plan to combat HATE
The Issue
Ethnically and culturally diverse Canadians are rapidly becoming statistics - and not for good reasons. Each day brings a headline of hate motivated crimes being perpetrated against community members, by people motivated by hate. Sending thoughts and prayers is neither enough nor long lasting. The hate is blind and is not restricted to faith, gender, sexual orientation, social standing, ethnic identity. In its frenzy, it's bulldozing us all - with the potential to reach all of us one by one if we don’t act to deter it.
We are all Canadians, and when one bleeds, we all ought to feel the pain. Here, the wound is not being inflicted by a foreign body, but elements within our own communities. We as a society are suffering from a cultural virus that needs immediate attention.
Silence on these matters is tantamount to complicity - and words without actions are useless. Lets all come together, as one whole being, to rid our communities of the plague of hate that is devouring our nation.
Our call is for the City of Edmonton along with Edmonton Police Service to remove barriers to reporting hate motivated crimes and allow for online reporting. Among the reasons people cite for not reporting hate motivated crimes is mistrust of the police, or not wanting to present at a police station.
This petition specifically requests the City of Edmonton and the Edmonton Police Service to provide an online portal through which people in our community may report hate motivated crimes and to also allow for third party reporting through community health centres/clinics and local organizations by way of reports that may later be provided to Edmonton Police Service officials for further investigation and follow-up.
