Please help me get this petition to 15,000 signatures. Once we have reached that goal, we will be requesting a Member to table it in Parliament for formal recognition of the concerns of the community.
I have attempted to access real time stats but have been unable to.
I have reviewed the Bail Act of 1982 and the amended bail changes brought in after Declan's death. It would seem that the amendments have had little to no effect on the crime rate, however without the statistics it is difficult to prove. Anecdotally, from what has been reported in the media and from social media posts, it seems clear that these deterrents have not even remotely had an impact.
Change has to come from within the government, and that must start with the basics - ACKNOWLEDGEMENT! I don't for one moment even begin to think that being CM would be an easy job. I certainly do not envy the level of work and exhaustion that role must bring. However, the government must recognise how scared and concerned people are. Completely ignoring people isn't going to make the problem disappear.
I understand that there has been a taskforce sent to or has been to QLD to look at Jack's Law, which has made an impact on the amount of knives on the street. It needs to be put forward to implement in the NT. I'm sure other avenues have been looked at, however I am giving the benefit of the doubt to the government that it has occured.
Since Declan was murdered, there has been at least 5 more murders.
14/4 - DV stabbing on Darwin foreshore
3/5 - Sifat assault Dariwn
1/6 - Edged weapon murder Alice Springs
6/7 - stabbing in Jilkminggan
15/7 - DV Alice Springs
In 4 months there have been 6 murders. This HAS TO STOP!
The government needs to listen. Please help me make them listen.
