Act Now: Impeach, Reform, and Restore Trust in Democracy

Act Now: Impeach, Reform, and Restore Trust in Democracy
The Issue
When in the course of human events, it becomes necessary for a people to reassert the principles upon which their nation was founded, and to resist those who undermine liberty, justice, and the rule of law, respect for truth and the common good demand that they speak plainly and without delay.
We hold these truths to be self-evident:
That all people are created equal;
That they are endowed with certain unalienable rights, among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of a just and democratic society;
That governments derive their just powers from the consent of the governed;
And that whenever any leader or body of government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the right and duty of the people to hold them accountable, through all legal and constitutional means.
The history of former President Donald J. Trump, now again wielding political power, is a history marked by contempt for democratic norms, institutions, and accountability. To prove this, let facts be submitted to a candid nation:
- He has spread deliberate falsehoods about the outcome of lawful elections, shaking the foundations of electoral legitimacy.
- He has encouraged insurrection and failed to condemn those who seek power through violence rather than through votes.
- He has abused the powers of his office for personal gain and revenge, using public institutions to pursue private vendettas.
- He has ignored lawful subpoenas, defied court rulings, and treated the judiciary not as a co-equal branch but as an obstacle to be overridden.
- He has stoked division through racist rhetoric, xenophobia, and conspiratorial thinking.
- He has degraded the truth, flooding public discourse with lies, eroding the public’s ability to discern fact from fiction.
- He has used public office as a vehicle for personal enrichment and shielded himself from financial and ethical scrutiny.
- He has undermined trust in the Department of Justice and sought to bend it to his will.
- He has damaged alliances and empowered adversaries by prioritizing personal flattery over strategic interest.
- He has willfully dismissed public health guidance, environmental science, and the needs of the vulnerable in pursuit of short-term political gain.
These are not the acts of a steward of the Constitution, but of a man who places himself above it.
In every stage of these encroachments, citizens, public servants, and elected officials have spoken out, protested, and petitioned. Their warnings have been mocked, their patriotism questioned, and their concerns silenced or punished.
We, therefore, as citizens devoted to the preservation of a constitutional republic, do solemnly declare:
- That Donald J. Trump is unfit to hold public office, and that impeachment is both warranted and necessary;
- That the recent Supreme Court decision affording sweeping legal immunity to presidents must be reversed or narrowed by judicial or legislative action, for no one in a democracy may be above the law;
- That the Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act must be restored in its original form to curtail the corrupting influence of unregulated money in politics and to return power to the people, not corporations and political machines.
We do this not in hatred, but in hope;
Not in vengeance, but in vigilance;
Not to divide the nation, but to preserve it.
Let these words be heard, signed, and shared not as a relic of defiance, but as a promise of renewal.
