Motorsports track for Canberra

Motorsports track for Canberra

The issue

NSW has a higher population than any other state or territory in Australia but only has two permanent effective racetracks, SMSP in Sydney and Wakefield Park in Goulburn which has an axe over its head.  Whereas Victoria has 4, Qld has 3, Sth Aus has 3, Tasmania has 2, Nth Aus has 1.  The ACT has zero and yet has a bigger population than Darwin!  There are lots of ACT and surrounds people that regularly travel to and spend money in Goulburn, Sydney, and even Phillip Island in Victoria.  Canberra had a street circuit albeit briefly, and a dragway, both of which are gone now, and we in the ACT are forced to take money out of the ACT.

A quality permanent raceway would not only support locals but would become a haven for motorsport tourists bringing a lot of money to local businesses including restaurants, cafes, accommodation, other tourist locations.  It would also solve the Summernats issues by taking it out of suburbia and giving it a home.

The Summernats bring in excess of $20million dollars for just a few days, imagine what a permanent quality racetrack and facilities would bring in annually. The track could also support local Driving Schools for cars and motorbikes etc. Canberra is long overdue to be put in the national or even international motorsport spotlight, just imagine the type of events we could host, MOTOGP, ASBK, WSBK, V8'S, etc Canberra needs this as a valuable addition to Canberras long list of tourist and recreational locations and businesses.

I'm just a humble 59 year old motorbike enthusiast that travels interstate too much to enjoy some track time, so, to make this happen we will need as much support as possible to convince the ACT Government that this is not just a great idea but a necessity. There is a huge number of locals that are not represented in this endeavor. Only we the people can make this happen.  Please show some support by signing and sharing this petition even if you don't think it will make a difference. I am committed to trying and believe we can get the numbers and make it happen.

Thank you and keep motoring

John
