Randy Lee Lassiter Jr., an innocent man, was wrongfully convicted and found guilty of a robbery back in 2018. His trial was swayed when the commonwealth brought in a witness that Randy had never previously met. Despite having a criminal record dating back to the 1980s, this individual testified against Randy, claiming they spent a weekend together in a penal institution where he supposedly overheard Randy's conversation about a robbery.

With no shred of physical evidence or reliable testimonial proof, the commonwealth proceeded to unjustly accuse Randy. As a result of this questionable legal process, Randy was handed a 10-year sentence for an alleged crime that he did not commit. The state's actions have left a bitter taste in our mouths, exposing systemic injustices.

Sadly, this disturbing occurrence is part of a broader issue. Unfair treatments and human rights violations within the VA prison system have been widespread. Inmates have battled against beatings to suppress claims, threatening solitary confinement, and cover-ups that seek to obliterate the truth. The inhumane living condition they face, from being denied basic needs such as clothing to complete communication isolation, is a punishment for an alleged crime they did not commit.

Legal actions to fight this injustice are repaid with brutal physical assault with no medical attention provided. The underlying, constant suppression of one's rights and access to justice is truly appalling.
