Stop Discrimination Against 11 yr old Boy with Culturally Acceptable Hairstyle in Troy, Tx
The Issue
Maddox Cozart is an 11yr old boy of mixed race who attends Raymond May's Middle School in Troy, Texas. Maddox is a great kid, good student, and never in trouble. Recently something horrible happened and he is being singled out by Michelle Jolliff, the principal, for his culturally acceptable hairstyle. She has put Maddox in In School Suspension (ISS) since April 5, 2021 and continues to do so. She hides behind an out dated, gender and race discriminating school dress code voted on by an all white committee. She and Mr. Neil Jeter have received several emails about this discrimination and continue to ignore requests to stop harassing a little boy. They do not believe any consequences will happen to them.
The board meeting was held on April 19, 2021 @ 6pm at the Troy High School in Troy, Texas. The board was addressed by the Cozart's Lawyer, Hope Cozart, and ACLU member, Charles Kabrich. Nothing has been resolved.
Please sign this petition and let the Texas House of Representatives and Governor Greg Abbott know that this discrimination by Troy ISD and many other schools across the state have out dated, race and gender insensitive dress codes. Maddox does not deserve ISS because of their dress code being severely flawed and unfair. They hide behind their positions because they think they are superior and can do whatever they want. Enough is Enough! It's 2021, Boys can wear braids and buns too - not just girls!!! Maddox hair is culturally appropriate and gender appropriate! Racial and Gender Equality is a very important issue going on across the United States! Please sign this petition and share!
If you can, please show up at the State Capitol in Austin, Tx. TUESDAY, APRIL 27TH to address the Texas Home of Representatives about passing The Crown Act.
Be sure to read our updates!!!
THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT!
Here is the link for the GoFundMe Account to help with attorneys expenses, possible court filings and anything leftover will towards helping them move ASAP before some of the race hate and threats happen!
