Acknowledge Contributions of Australians of Indian heritage

The issue

Australians of Indian heritage have played a significant role in shaping modern Australia, contributing to its economy, healthcare, and community support system. Despite being only a fraction of the population, they have excelled as skilled workers, physicians, and even volunteers serving community in need.

With a strong work ethic and unparalleled dedication,  Australian professionals of Indian heritage have been pivotal in various industries. They are not only paying taxes that bolster the economy but are also filling gaps in the workforce through skilled labor. In sectors such as IT, engineering, and academia, they have brought innovation and expertise, sustaining Australia’s competitiveness on the global stage.

In healthcare, Australian doctors of Indian heritage and medical staff have been life-saving assets. Their expertise contributes significantly to Australia's health system, offering care and compassion to numerous patients. As the healthcare industry grapples with staff shortages, the importance of these professionals is more pronounced than ever.

During the catastrophic New South Wales floods, Indian Heritage run relief organisation provided essential relief and emergency assistance, reflecting India’s longstanding tradition of Sewa, or selfless service.

1.3 million Indian Soldiers voluntarily served in World War-1 and about 120,000 were killed.

2.5 million Indian Soldiers served in World War -2 and about a 100,000 were killed.

Recognition and appreciation of the invaluable contributions of Australians of Indian heritage is overdue. It's time for the Australian government and the community to publicly acknowledge their roles in contribution to the Spirit of Australian Community.
