The Issue

The Fort DuPont Ice Skating Rink facility in Ward 7 has long been a cultural and historical cornerstone, representing more than just bricks and mortar. It is a symbol of opportunity, recreation, and community pride for many generations of families in our area. For years, the promise of a revitalized Fort DuPont has been made to the community, with over $40 million in taxpayer funds allocated for this important project. However, despite the significant investment, we continue to experience frustrating delays, broken promises, and an alarming lack of transparency in its development.

This mismanagement has led to disappointment and disenchantment in our community. The very heart of Ward 7 – its heritage and culture, embodied in Fort DuPont Ice Skating Rink– stands neglected. The profound impact of this on local families, who have long cherished the facility as a place of gathering, historical reflection, and recreation, cannot be overstated. It is time to act.

We demand an immediate audit of the Fort DuPont Ice Skating Rink revitalization project to uncover the reasons behind these persistent delays and to hold those responsible accountable. We call for a transparent project timeline with clear deadlines, regular updates, and involvement of community representatives to ensure public oversight.

Fort DuPont deserves to be restored to its rightful place as a pillar of our community life. We urge city officials and project managers to attend to this matter with the urgency and transparency it requires. Let us work together to fulfill the promise made to Ward 7 and the greater District.

Sign this petition to demand accountability and transparency, and to ensure Fort DuPont returns as a thriving hub of community spirit.
