The current prom date falls on Eid, which is one of the most important holidays for us Muslim students. On that day, we are expected to attend prayers, be with our families, and take part in our traditions that cannot just be skipped or moved around for a dance. Because of this, a number of seniors are being put in the position of choosing between their faith and a once in a lifetime school event.

Prom is supposed to celebrate the entire senior class, not just the students whose holidays were considered when the date was picked. It’s frustrating that such a major religious holiday was overlooked, especially when simply moving the date by one day could solve the problem and allow everyone to attend.

This isn’t a big or unreasonable request. It’s about basic respect and a being inclusive. A small change would make a big difference and show that all students, not just some, are valued when important decisions are made.
