I wish I was writing to you with a success story but unfortunately airlines don’t appear to care about accessibility.
Therefore I have changed tack and am going straight to the major commercial aircraft manufacturers asking them to remove the airlines from the equation and produce aircraft which have accessibility as standard, not a choice feature.
I am fully aware of how busy you are and how you must be approached often for supporting causes, but as you also know United we win, divided and alone the mobility challenged continue to be manhandled being carried on and off aircraft and to their seats, risking injury, usually unable to use onboard toilets, and having their wheelchairs damaged. Some have received serious injuries and some have even died, because they can’t take their wheelchairs onboard. ( I recently spent a week in hospital and six weeks on antibiotics as a result of being dropped from the transfer aisle chair on a flight.)
Could you help once again by adding your name and spreading the news about the petition linked below.
Your support of this petition would be a huge step in encouraging Boeing Co and Airbus to manufacture accessible aircraft.
There may be a long way to go from concept accessible aircraft features to reality, but the more noise the quicker things may happen.
