It’s taking months still for the governments programme Access to Work responds to claimants. This length if time is prohibiting disabled people from working as they can’t access the vital support needed, such as a guide for a blind or visually impaired person  or an interpreter for a deaf person.

Disabled people accessing a job, becoming self employed or beginning a third sector organisation or a company cannot access their legally entitled support staff, equipment or travel to get to, work within or return home from work

The Conservative Government’s  Access To Work department is not Fit for Purpose, and this needs to be exposed, discussed publicly and changed immediately. The department “Access to Work” is not meeting the Disability Equality Duty. It is actively preventing access to work and so is discriminating against a fifth of thr IK populous. Please stop now goverment department.

Applications for Access to Work are currently taking many months to process. Meaning that when a new job is secured, assessment of needs and support required is not available for a number of months less than six months. Months before a BSL interpreter or Job Coach is available. This would prevent a person accepting a job. This inequality prevents access to a basic human right.

Complaints have been made internally, Some response has occured but it DOES NOT go far enough. The public deserve to know, disabled people deserve the barriers they face to be exposed, ensuring an empathic response to worklessness.

If this doesn’t affect you now, it may affect you or your loved ones in the future. We are change agents unless disabled people are in the most public positions, Inclusion will not prevail.
