Why this petition matters

Started by Frankie Donald

With the continuous hot weather over the last couple of weeks, we have seen more and more incidents of fires within the Heath (Grasslands) that’s backs on to several housing estates within Feltham. Sunday 7th August, saw a fire sweep the grassland behind Hereford Road which saw several houses back gardens go up in flames. The fire department was on scene within minutes , however faced with a metal fence found it more difficult to fight the flames. 10 fire engines and 70 fire fighters were on scene and some for more than 24hrs dousing hotspots  ensuring the safety of the residents of Hereford Road. In fighting the fire, the fire fighters took part of the metal fence down to gain access. Over the years, we have seen several fires when the weather has been extremely hot which means grassland has become very dry. The fire service always come down Hereford Road, Feltham to try and access the fire but always have to turn around and try and find another way of accessing the heath, delaying them doing the job they need to do all whilst the fires continue to spread, causing more disruption. We are proposing that instead of a new metal fence replacing the current one an access gate is installed which would help the fire service gain access to do the essential job that they need to do.
