Accelerate the Issuance of "Permesso di Soggiorno" for International Students of Venice
The Issue
We, the International students of Venice, kindly request that the Immigration Office take immediate action to accelerate the process of issuing our residence permit.
Based on our information from a large group of international students, it takes up to one year or even more to wait for the fingerprint appointment. Also, lately, students have not been able to pick up their issued cards immediately and have to wait a few months. It means that we will receive our residence permit almost close to its expiry date or receive the expired one, and obtaining a residence permit process does not benefit us.
We wish to bring to your attention the significant impact this delay has on our lives, particularly in terms of our ability to travel for different academic and job opportunities in Europe.
Due to this delay, we are missing valuable opportunities in our academic and professional lives. Students often rely on the flexibility of their academic schedules to participate in internships, research programs, and other career-enhancing activities. The prolonged delay prevents us from engaging in these experiences, thus impacting our academic and professional growth.
Furthermore, without a residence permit, we experience inconveniences in bureaucratic tasks such as opening a bank account and registering for a SIM card in some companies.
We kindly request your immediate attention to this matter to expedite the issuance of residence permits. We hope you understand the importance of the problem and help us achieve a just, safe, and healthy life for international students.
We propose the following actions:
1. Expedite the processing of permission cards to ensure timely issuance.
2. Communicate a clear timeline for the distribution of the cards to alleviate uncertainty among students.
3. Establish a system for emergency cases, allowing affected students to obtain temporary permissions for urgent travel.
We trust in your understanding and commitment to the well-being and success of the student bodies at the universities of Venice. We are confident that your prompt attention to this matter will not only ease the current challenges but also contribute to fostering a more supportive and efficient administrative environment.
