Accelerate the Full-Scale Development of London Street in Nagpur
Accelerate the Full-Scale Development of London Street in Nagpur
The Issue
We, the undersigned citizens of Nagpur, strongly support the timely and full-scale development of the 5.5 km stretch known as London Street (also called Orange Street), and we respectfully urge the concerned authorities to move forward with this transformative project without any further delay.
This land, previously under defense ownership, was rightfully acquired by the NMC for ₹2.5 crore with a clear and transparent vision—to develop a modern commercial and civic corridor that includes essential facilities such as hospitals, shopping complexes, corporate offices, an auditorium, and public amenities. This project is not just another piece of infrastructure; it is a potential game-changer for the city of Nagpur.
The development of London Street can create thousands of direct and indirect jobs, spanning sectors such as construction, retail, healthcare, management, logistics, and administration. For a city like Nagpur, where many talented youth are forced to migrate to other metros for employment opportunities, this project offers hope and a future within their hometown. It is an opportunity to reverse the brain drain and make Nagpur a hub of commerce and services.
Moreover, this commercial corridor will stimulate the local economy. It will attract investment, bring in businesses, and generate long-term revenue for the city. Local shopkeepers, service providers, vendors, and transportation workers will all benefit from the increased footfall and commercial activity.
Unfortunately, a few so-called environmentalists and self-proclaimed journalists are opposing the project on the grounds that some trees have grown on the land over time. While environmental care is important, this argument lacks context. Urban development and environmental responsibility are not mutually exclusive. The NMC can and should undertake compensatory afforestation and ensure that greenery is preserved or relocated thoughtfully. However, the presence of trees should not be used as an excuse to halt the progress of a vital public project.
The residents of this area are fully in support of the development and are eagerly awaiting its completion. They want access to better facilities, improved infrastructure, and more employment opportunities—just like any other modern urban population.
We believe that a few opposing voices should not override the will and welfare of the majority. If not on London Street, then where should this development happen? Nagpur deserves infrastructure on par with any other growing Indian city.
Therefore, we respectfully urge you to:
Allow the London Street project to continue at full pace
Address environmental concerns through responsible afforestation
Stand firm against misinformation and obstructivenarratives
Put the interests of Nagpur’s people and future first
Let this project be a symbol of growth, opportunity, and vision. Let it be the beginning of a new era for Nagpur.
