Get Acalanes to put the seconds back on classroom clocks!
Why this petition matters
As many students noticed after returning from winter break, the Acalanes High School digital classroom clocks no longer display seconds. Why? I have overheard countless amounts of my peers complain about this change as well. Many have said they use the seconds for timing something in science class, knowing the exact time when to pack up about 20 seconds before the bell rings or so they know when to stop working and get the most out of their time. Either way, this change was extremely unnecessary. Personally, as a student, the display of seconds was very helpful and a good tool to have. When you have the ability to see the seconds, you can get the most out of your time. Let me give you an example that I bet some students can relate to; the period is nearing those final minutes. You have poured your heart and soul into a timed, handwritten essay for your English class final. It is worth 15 percent of your grade, and you currently stand at 89.49 in the class. You need to do your absolute best. Your arm is sore, you are mentally drained as you put the finishing touches on the essay. You glance up at the clock, one minute left. Oh no. One minute. Wait, is it one minute of 10 seconds? Do you have time to finish the last sentence before the teacher yells “pencils down”? Or do you have the time to write a better closing sentence that will make you proud of your work? See why this is unnecessary? Yes, it is a minuscule problem in a world filled with them, but it is the simplest of fixes. Put the seconds back on our clocks.
Give the students what they want. We may be young, but we are the majority and we will not stay silent about what we want. Well AUHSD, give us back our seconds.
Time is ticking.
