Las Lomas Reform started this petition to Las Lomas High School Acalanes Union High School District and

In response to the rapidly rising Las Lomas Reform Now movement, the Acalanes Union High School District hired an independent investigator regarding sexual harassment and racism from faculty and administration at Las Lomas High School.

The independent investigator is about to provide AUHSD with a comprehensive investigation report. AUHSD can choose to keep the report results private and based on their history, it is highly likely that they will try.

Did you know that Superintendent John Nickerson made the news in April 2020 for AUHSD protecting Acalanes/Miramonte pedophile Kyle Ann Wood for two decades? And that Associate Superintendent, Amy McNamara (district coordinator of the current investigation), resigned from her last job as Principal at James Logan high school after she was sued for covering up Joe Rey Valle's sex abuse of a student?

We have to break the cycle of cover ups, silencing students, and endangering minors. We cannot let them cover up yet another sexual misconduct investigation.

We realize it would be unsafe for AUHSD to release the full report in writing because we want to protect any witness identities that may be included in the report. At the same time, we must ensure the investigator's findings are made accessible and transparent. So:

For the sake of rebuilding trust and transparency between AUHSD and the community, Las Lomas Reform Now organizers demand that AUHSD release the report, unredacted, immediately upon the report's availability.

AUHSD should not be allowed to hide what the investigator finds. Our community deserves access to the report and findings from the investigation—not just a letter or summary from someone appointed by the district to protect them—we, the students, parents, and alumni, demand all of it. AUHSD works for the people and is not above the law, Title IX, or their own policy. If AUHSD plans to start protecting students from discrimination and adequately address its history of institutional betrayal, there must be full disclosure, accountability, and protection of witnesses.

We call upon AUHSD to take this opportunity and practice institutional courage. Institutional courage is,

"an institution’s commitment to seek the truth and engage in moral action, despite unpleasantness, risk, and short-term cost. It is a pledge to protect and care for those who depend on the institution. It is a compass oriented to the common good of individuals, the institution, and the world. It is a force that transforms institutions into more accountable, equitable, healthy places for everyone” (Center for Institutional Courage, 2014).

We need your help requesting the release of this report. Please sign to support students and their futures. While undeniable harm has been done by AUHSD, there is hope for change. Every student deserves to be safe and protected at school, but change and true accountability can't begin until the community understands the full scope of what is identified in the investigation.

Thank you from us and from future students!
