Hi, I'm Adam. I have one arm and three artificial limbs. That hasn't stopped me from climbing mountains and performing stand-up comedy. Now I'm ready to tackle my next challenge — hosting the Oscars. Will you help me?

Adam's Story: 

On July 14, 2010, I was six months into my first tour in Afghanistan with the US Army when my vehicle hit an improvised explosive device. I was the only one to survive the attack. Four of my brothers were killed and I was left a triple amputee. Since then, I’ve undergone 140+ surgeries on my road to recovery. But my loss, my injury, my pain — it doesn’t define me.

I was given a second chance at life and I haven’t looked back. My mission is to serve and inspire others through my story and actions. I have completed 10+ marathons on my handcycle, finished a one mile open water swim in the U.S. Virgin Islands (with one arm), and climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro to raise $30,000+ for veteran nonprofits. I also speak across the country at places like St. Jude’s Children Hospital to inspire others with my story of recovery.

And this summer, I accomplished my life-long dream of becoming a stand-up comic, thanks to a comedy class from the Armed Services Arts Partnership. Telling jokes gives me a positive outlet to talk about my frustrations and change people’s perceptions of amputees. Plus, I love making people laugh and bringing joy to the lives of others. It’s safe to say I caught the comedy bug and I won’t be stopping any time soon!

So, when I recently heard that the Oscars were looking for a new host, I thought “why not me?” Think about it — I’m funny, I’m handsome, and I look taller on TV. In all seriousness, I couldn’t imagine a better platform to share my story, to show the country that veterans aren’t broken, and to prove that disability is not defining.
