Wow.
In just a few days, principled people across the country have signed our Open Letter. Thank you.
This response is humbling. We are on the right side of history.
Already, the list of signatories includes:
· Journalist Antony Loewenstein
· Greens MP Michael Berkman
· Former MP Jonathan Sriranganathan
· Writers Sara Haddad and Omar Sakr
· Feminist Clementine Ford
· Uncle Ken Canning/Burraga Gutya, the first Aboriginal graduate of UTS, who graduated wrapped in the Aboriginal flag in 1988
Did you know Uncle Ken also campaigned, as a student, for what became the Jumbunna Indigenous House of Learning? Proof of what is possible when we fight together for what is right.
The point is not to single people out, but to show that incredible people already stand with us.
We can keep this momentum growing.
This year, millions have marched, written, donated, divested, and spoken up about Gaza. In Gaza City today, intensifying Israeli attacks have forced lifesaving medical care to stop. Food and water are blocked; people are on the brink of death. We join others in urging Australia to act immediately to halt the violence, allow unimpeded humanitarian access, and take concrete steps to protect Palestinians.
Our campaign is one small part of this broader struggle. It will not, by itself, stop the bombs, forced displacement, or brutal starvation. It is part of the accountability project that will continue until PM Albanese appears at the ICC.
In early 2024, Australian lawyers referred PM Albanese to the International Criminal Court as an accessory to genocide in Gaza. He's the first Western leader sent before the ICC. He and his cabinet “encouraged and supported war crimes" by Israel against Palestinians "through political and military assistance,” while knowing Israel’s actions amounted to crimes. PM Albanese refers to Netanyahu as “a dear friend.”
Israel’s dear friends are not welcome in our spaces. This keynote invitation is indefensible.
We ask that you spend 20 minutes today sharing the Open Letter with 6–8 friends, along with a personal note.
Please share widely: on social media, WhatsApp, email, anywhere you connect with people of conscience. Every signature counts.
We're calling on the Australian Political Studies Association, peak body for political science scholarship in Australia, to rescind its keynote invitation, at its flagship conference at University of Melbourne, to a politician openly celebrated by Zionist lobby groups.
Israel’s esteemed supporters have no place headlining a national politics conference.
If momentum builds, we’ll readily take this to the media.
When we surpass APSA’s 2025 delegate numbers, people power will force change.
In solidarity,
Kara Beavis & Nasser Mashni
