Hold media companies responsible for journalists who extort money

The Issue

The Philippine media has always held itself to be the protectors of truth and the paragons of honesty and integrity. The recent revelations made by President-elect Rody Duterte has exposed the ugly truth behind the rampant corruption going on within the ranks of the Philippine media. But instead of accepting and making efforts to correct the problem, the media establishments have chosen to deny what everyone knows to be true - that there are many so-called journalists in the Philippines who use their position and power to extort money.. By their refusal to accept responsibility for cleaing up their own backyards, these media companies are putting the lives of genuine journalists in danger. We are therefore asking that all the media companies be held directly liable for the criminal acts of the people working, either directly or indirectly with their company.
