The Issue

Valentine's Day, celebrated annually on February 14th, has been widely recognized as a day to express love and affection. However, it has also become a commercialized holiday that puts unnecessary pressure on individuals to conform to societal expectations of love and relationships. This can lead to feelings of exclusion and loneliness for those who are single or in non-traditional relationships. Moreover, according to the National Retail Federation (NRF), Americans spent an estimated $27.4 billion on Valentine's Day in 2020 alone - money that could be better spent elsewhere or saved for personal needs. We believe that love should be expressed freely every day without the need for a specific holiday dictating how and when this should occur. Let us promote daily expressions of affection rather than confining them to one commercially-driven day per year. Please sign this petition if you agree with abolishing Valentine's Day celebrations.
