Abolish the Sunday Closing Law/Blue Laws in New Jersey

The Issue

As a resident of New Jersey, I find myself frustrated by the existence of the Blue Laws. These laws mandate that certain stores close on Sundays, disrupting our lives and limiting our freedom to shop when it suits us. The inconvenience caused by these laws is entirely unnecessary.

The Sunday Closing Law was originally enacted with religious intentions in mind. However, we live in a diverse society where not everyone observes a day of rest on Sunday. It's time for our legislation to reflect this diversity and adapt to modern times.

Moreover, these laws can have economic implications as well. According to the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER), restrictions on Sunday shopping may lead to fewer hours worked and lower employment rates in retail trade (Source: NBER). By abolishing these outdated laws, we could potentially boost local economy and job growth.

It's time for New Jersey to move forward from these archaic regulations that no longer serve their intended purpose but instead cause frustration among residents like me.
