The Issue

The Philadelphia Parking Authority (PPA) has become synonymous with aggressive, predatory tactics that exploit the very residents it purports to serve. As a resident of Philadelphia, I have witnessed firsthand how the PPA prioritizes revenue generation over fair treatment of the citizens. Its ruthless enforcement policies and excessive fines have turned what should be a public service into an oppressive enterprise that benefits itself rather than our community.

The PPA was established with the intention of addressing parking issues and generating revenue to support municipal projects. However, it operates as though it answers to no one, imposing exorbitant fines for minor or even questionable infractions. Statistics reveal that the PPA rakes in millions of dollars each year from the citizens of Philadelphia, yet our city sees little benefit from these revenues. Schools struggle, public services are underfunded, and city infrastructure remains in disrepair even as our wallets are drained.

Moreover, the PPA's state-controlled status means it's insulated from local accountability, allowing it to continue unjust practices unhindered by the voices of those it impacts most. This lack of local oversight gives the authority unchecked power and no incentive to act fairly.

Consider the stories of individuals who have faced fines surpassing their grocery bills for a single oversight. How often do residents return to their parked vehicles only to find tickets issued for infractions they never committed, or for trivial violations that carry punitive fees amplifying the financial burden?

This situation is not only unfair, but unsustainable. To truly support the residents of Philadelphia, we need to dismantle the current framework of the PPA and replace it with a system built on fairness and transparency. By transitioning control to a locally governed body, we can ensure that the revenues collected are reinvested in our community, supporting essential public services and infrastructure development.

We urge city officials, state legislators, and everyone who cares about the well-being of Philadelphians to support the abolition of the PPA as it currently exists. Bring governance back to the local level where accountability and transparency are possible.

Join us in demanding change. Sign this petition to put an end to the exploitative practices of the Philadelphia Parking Authority and help us build a better future for our city.
