The Issue

Living in Philadelphia should not feel like navigating a maze of parking tickets and fear of having our cars towed. The Philadelphia Parking Authority (PPA) continuously affects my life and those in my community. We have endured an excessive number of unnecessary parking tickets and constant towing threats that make daily life extremely difficult. Even simple acts, like visiting a family member, come with the looming threat of a fine or, worse, finding your car missing from where it was parked the night before.

The PPA has become notorious for its harsh and frequently unjust parking enforcement, which disproportionately affects residents who are just trying to go about their daily lives. Instead of supporting the community, it seems like the PPA is more focused on generating revenue through high fines and aggressive towing practices.

There is substantial evidence showing how overbearing parking enforcement impacts residents' quality of life negatively. Excessive ticketing and aggressive towing policies not only drain financial resources but also contribute to stress and a sense of unease in our beloved city. Many Philadelphians have shared similar experiences, and the sentiment is clear: something needs to change.

Abolishing the PPA could help reclaim our streets for the people who live here—not just for those looking to make money off their troubles. Instead, we should consider alternative models of parking management that are fairer and more community-oriented.

Cities across the nation have adopted community-based parking programs that focus on residents' needs while still maintaining order and accessibility. By emulating these models, Philadelphia can promote a more harmonious and less punitive approach that supports rather than penalizes its community members.

Sign this petition to call for an end to the Philadelphia Parking Authority and advocate for a more resident-friendly approach to parking management in Philadelphia.
