Abolish the IRS

The Issue

After several years of working tirelessly with a tax advocate to resolve an issue caused by the IRS's error, I have faced mounting frustration and financial strain. The IRS misapplied funds to a previous tax year, and despite my best efforts to seek resolution, I was met with an unsettling outcome: charges on inaccurate accounting, compounded fees, and interest. This experience of being unjustly penalized, despite being a diligent taxpayer, highlights a broader systemic issue within the IRS that impacts countless Americans every year.

After making regularly scheduled (and significant) payments for the last several years, Today I received yet another letter stating their misallocation of payments over the past 5 years of a total of $89. However, their misapplied payment now has an additional $1138.78, totaling $1227.78. This is in addition to my regular installment payments. Depending on which year, and per the tax code, interest is charged at a 5, 6, 7, or 8% interest rate. All for a mistake the IRS made.

The Internal Revenue Service has long been criticized for its inefficiency, lack of transparency, and burdensome processes, which often leave taxpayers mired in confusion and financial distress. According to a report by the National Taxpayer Advocate, the IRS receives over 100 million phone calls annually, yet answers only around 32% of them. This statistic underscores a severe disconnect between taxpayer needs and the agency's capability to fulfill them.

Moreover, the IRS's outdated infrastructure and policies contribute heavily to these inefficiencies. The Government Accountability Office (GAO) has consistently reported on the IRS's inability to properly manage technology and data, resulting in prolonged processing times and incorrect decisions.

A radical restructuring of our tax system is necessary. By abolishing the IRS in its current form, we can pave the way for a more streamlined, transparent, and equitable tax collection process. The proposed solution includes shifting towards a simplified tax code, eliminating unnecessary red tape, and adopting modern technological frameworks to handle tax-related matters more efficiently.

By signing this petition, you stand with those who have been wronged by an outdated and inefficient system. Let us demand change for a fairer and more just tax system for all Americans. Sign the petition to abolish the IRS and advocate for a transformative tax reform that truly serves the people's interests.
