As independent ordinary citizens, we filed a lawsuit with at the U.S. District Court, Southern District of New York to abolish the slavery-era Electoral College and to compel the Congress to fulfill its constitutional duty to make laws ensuring Equal Protection of voting rights guaranteed by the 14th Amendment. On 03/17/2017, we began with the preliminary conference at the court. The court proceeding started at 3pm and was presided by the Honorable Judge William H. Pauley III. The Judge started by asking the nature of the lawsuit at hand. Our attorney then introduced the plaintiff to the court, and the plaintiff delivered a passionate opening statement to the court. The attorney representing the defendants (the four Congressional leaders) requested the Judge to dismiss our lawsuit claiming the plaintiff has no standing to make this type of lawsuit. The Judge then ordered the two parties to submit motion papers and responses respectively by May 19th. The preliminary conference hence concluded with the oral argument being scheduled on June 30, at 12pm.
