Abolish the Delay in National Guard and Reservists Retirement Benefits

Abolish the Delay in National Guard and Reservists Retirement Benefits
The Issue
My name is Johnny Donaldson, and I am an honorably discharged veteran who dedicated 20 years of my life to serving in the Army National Guard. Upon retiring, unlike my peers in Active Duty, I cannot collect my retirement pay immediately but must wait an additional 13 years. Why is it that those who served equally are not treated equally in retirement?
Such an unjust law is known as the 'Gray Area Retirement' referring to guardsmen and reservists who have completed 20 years of service but must wait until the age of 60 to receive their retirement benefits. According to a report by the Reserve Officers Association, every year, tens of thousands of guardsmen face financial hardship due to this unjust delay. Unlike active duty personnel, these brave servicemen and women are left navigating through this gray area without proper financial support.
We seek to rectify this imbalance. Repealing 'Gray Area Retirement' would mean treating all servicemen and women who have served a full career in the military with the same respect and financial support upon retirement. This would not just be a change in law but a strong message that a nation appreciates every individual's service, be it Active Duty, National Guard, or Reserves.
Stand with us in calling for equal treatment of all our veterans. Sign this petition to abolish the gray area in National Guard and Reservists retirement benefits.
