Abolish property taxes on homes
The Issue
Every year, it feels like I'm paying for a house I already own. I worked hard, saved, and bought my house outright, only to face an endless cycle of property tax payments. This isn't just my story; it's the story of countless homeowners across the country who face the same frustration and financial burden.
The concept of continually paying property taxes on owned homes is unjust. Once you own your house, there shouldn't be an ongoing system that effectively means you're renting from the government. Property taxes, initially intended to support local infrastructure and public services, have become an overwhelming burden for homeowners. In many cases, these taxes rise unpredictably, leading to financial insecurity, especially for those on fixed incomes, such as retirees.
According to a study by the Tax Foundation, property taxes make up nearly 32% of total state and local tax collections in the United States, averaging about $2,375 per home annually. This amount can be crippling for some, forcing homeowners into financial hardship, and, in extreme cases, the sale of their homes, just to keep up with tax dues.
It's time to rethink this model. Instead of property taxes, coruption with our tax dollars needs to be addressed pay cuts for politians why should they make over 100thousand a year let them buy there on insurance and quite paying them when they leave office there are many other places the money can come from.we can explore alternative funding methods, such as local sales taxes or income-based contributions, which could distribute the financial responsibility more equitably. This would lessen the burden on homeowners while still supporting essential public services.
By signing this petition, you join a movement striving for fairness and economic justice for homeowners. Let's work together to abolish property taxes on primary residences and create a more equitable system for funding our communities. Sign today to support meaningful change.
