Pace University and many of its professors have seemingly transitioned most (and trending to all) of its courses and their respective course content over to a third-party textbook manufacturer called McGraw Hill’s web infrastructure from Pace-operated Classes.

Connect, hence the name, connects your assignments, quizzes, exams, and textbook together. While this streamlined operation is a general improvement from Classes, it also locks all of this content behind a textbook paywall that can range anywhere between $50-500 (trending around $200 we’re finding).

While textbook fees are par for the course, they should not gatekeep your course content. This eliminates a student’s choice to obtain their reading material in the most beneficial (whether educationally or financially) way for them.

Furthermore, students are not notified prior to signing up for the course that there will be additional mandatory fees to simply access coursework.

We’re already in correspondence with Pace chairs, advisors, and department heads and we’re finding that they agree with the student body regarding this issue. It seems to be an unhealthy decline in the further monetization of our already expensive education. Hopefully, we can migrate our classes and their content back to a freely accessible online infrastructure.

I think we all know they're pushing it. If you too take issue with this change, please sign our petition so that we may make a change that will benefit the student body as a whole.
