The Issue

Petition To:

President of Pakistan, Prime Minister of Pakistan, Speaker National Assembly, Chairman Senate, Leader of the Opposition

Petition Text:

We, the citizens of Pakistan, demand an immediate end to lifetime pensions, free housing, vehicles, staff, and post-retirement perks for Members of Parliament (MNA/ MPA), Senators, and former Presidents.

Why?

In February 2026, Sri Lanka’s 225-member Parliament voted 154 to 2 to repeal its 49-year-old Parliamentary Pensions Act. The law now stops pensions for _all_ current, former MPs and their widows. Months earlier, Sri Lanka also ended housing, vehicles, allowances, and security for former presidents.

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake called it a necessity during an economic crisis.

In Pakistan, the opposite is happening:

1. MP salaries hiked: National Assembly raised monthly pay from Rs 180,000 to Rs 519,000 in 2025.

2. No accountability: Parliament passed a bill to keep MPs’ assets confidential for up to 1 year.

3. *Public suffering*: Over 40% of Pakistan lives below poverty. Citizens face inflation, load-shedding, and collapsed public services, while paying taxes to fund “golden-egg” privileges for a few.

*Meanwhile, Pakistan _has_ cut pensions for civil servants*:

Federal govt in 2025 ended multiple pensions for employees. KP in 2022 ended pensions for all future govt hires. If austerity is for the bureaucrat, it must start at the top.

*We demand:*

1. *Repeal all laws granting pensions to MPs, Senators, MPAs, and former Presidents/PMs*, with immediate effect. No new pensions. Existing pensions to be phased out.

2. *End all post-retirement perks*: Official housing, vehicles with fuel, security, staff, medical, and secretarial allowances for former legislators and presidents.

3. *Cap salaries & allowances* to average civil servant scales. Make all asset declarations fully public, not confidential.

4. *Redirect savings* to health, education, and debt relief for the Pakistani people.

Sri Lanka proved it is legally and politically possible with public will. Pakistan’s Parliament has the same power.

*If our representatives cannot live like the people they serve, they do not deserve to represent them.*
