This bill does nothing more than reinforce the “status quo” in our Family Courts. The bill contains no guidelines for alimony amount and duration, the bill does not guarantee the ability to retire, the bill does not protect a second spouses income, neither is the bill retroactive. This legislation has become a National Issue and whether you pass or veto this bill will have tremendous consequences in your run for the Office of the President of the United States. The Citizens will see where your priorities lie; either with the People of the United States or the Attorneys and the State Bar Associations. The State Bar Associations are running rough shod over our democratic process in the United States. We have to stop this incestuous relationship between the Legislatures and the State Bar Associations. Bill A845 was pushed through committee with very little review. At the very least you should push this bill back to the NJ Legislature for edits and amendments to make it more fair to the people and add provisions for the formation of a Study Commission to evaluate the legislation and to make recommendations for changes as needed. This Commission must have a Alimony Reform Sentential to guarantee that fairness is the ultimate end.
