Abolish ICE permanently
The Issue
In 2017, my life took a dramatic turn when my husband was suddenly detained by ICE during a routine check-in. Unable to see him for weeks, our children cried themselves to sleep every night, and I lived in constant fear of losing him forever. This isn't just my story; it's the reality for thousands of families across America.
The Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency was established in 2003, and its mission was intended to enhance national security. However, over the years, its practices have often led to controversy and criticism, largely for its methods of separating families and deporting individuals who contribute positively to American society. According to a 2020 study by the Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse (TRAC), nearly 70% of ICE detainees had no criminal record. This shows a grave misuse of power and resources that could otherwise be invested in humane immigration solutions.
Beyond the numbers, consider the human cost. Children torn away from their parents, communities living in terror, and the psychological impact of living in fear of raids. The narrative must change. We must focus on immigration systems that prioritize humanity, fairness, and dignity.
Countries across the world, such as Canada and Sweden, have implemented immigration systems that ensure security without compromising human rights. Establishing clear pathways to citizenship, increasing oversight to prevent abuse, and investing in community resources are critical steps we can adopt. Dishonoring inhumane practices must be a priority.
By dismantling ICE, we can redirect our focus toward creating a compassionate and efficient immigration system. We have the chance to foster an environment where families are united, communities thrive, and immigrants are regarded as valuable contributors to our nation.
I urge you to join me in calling for the permanent abolition of ICE. Let's come together to demand a future where justice and humanity are the cornerstones of our immigration policies. Please sign this petition to make your voice heard and bring about meaningful change.
