The Issue

I, like many others, was a victim of Florida's "no fault state" law. Physically stopped at a red light, I was rear-ended by a woman driving 40 mph. She caused over $12,000 in damages to my newly bought car that was less than a year old, destroyed my Microsoft Surface Pro 3 packed in the trunk, and her impact gravely injured me, herniating 6 discs in my back and causing me to suffer from chronic pain. I also ended up missing out on my long weekend vacation with my husband and a night at the hotel I had already paid for as my hospitalization followed the accident.

The driver at fault had minimal insurance, covering only the damage to my vehicle. However, she was not held accountable for the immense personal loss and suffering she caused me. This injustice is the result of Florida's existing "no fault state" law, under which the drivers' insurance covers their own losses, regardless of responsibility.

This outdated regulation denies victims like me a chance for comprehensive compensation and holds negligent drivers accountable. The result is a lifetime of pain and financial stress for the victims. According to the Insurance Research Council, the average payout for motor vehicle accident injuries in "no fault states" is 70% lower than in states with traditional tort insurance systems.

The demand here is simple. We advocate the repeal of Florida's "no fault state" law, thus pushing for a system that rightfully assigns responsibility where it's due and provides satisfactory compensation for innocent victims. This is not about retribution; it's about justice and accountability. It's your turn to take the wheel. Sign this petition and help drive change in Florida's insurance law today.
