My dog Marley was attacked by a dog last year. We were out walking when he slipped off his lead and went up to another dog to play. I reassured the owner that he was friendly, he said nothing. His dog then proceeded to bite my dog, my dog then retaliated. I broke up the altercation, in the process I was bitten by both dogs. The other owner did nothing to stop this. The police turned up and spoke to me, patted Marley, reassured me and told me what a good dog he is (he’s known in the area as a kind natured, friendly dog and has met the police several times while out walking). The owner left while I spoke to them. The owner proceeded to contact the dog warden who investigated the situation and concluded that Marley should be kept on a lead in public and wear a muzzle.
I hoped this was the end of my ordeal but I’ve since received a letter informing they’re taking me to court. He also posted about the incident on a public Facebook page for the Tillydrone community slandering myself and my dog, lying about the circumstances of the incident and claiming I was on drugs. This lead to a torrent of abuse, from multiple people I’ve never met. My dog has never attacked another dog before or since, this was in self defence.
