Reduce plastic waste with compostable utensils in ABC Unified School District cafeterias
Why this petition matters

Did you know that ABC Unified School District emits about 1481 pounds of carbon dioxide a day from plastic utensils? We are a group of 14 students from Whitney High School's Ecology and Wildlife Club who are taking action to reduce the amount of plastic waste our school district produces and fight global warming.
The Ecology and Wildlife Club is working with the non-profit organization, Grades of Green, to reduce the impact of climate change by replacing current plastic utensils with compostable ones in school cafeterias throughout the district. As a part of our Sustainable Lunch Campaign, we are fundraising to purchase compostable utensils and a utensil dispenser for Whitney High School’s cafeteria while creating infographics to share the benefits of reducing plastic waste. As our long-term goal, we will present the benefits of using compostable utensils to the district board to bring compostable utensils to school cafeterias across the entire district and demonstrate how a simple lifestyle change can lead to greater sustainability within our community. Your signature will help students like us achieve our goal of a greener future for ABC Unified School District through sustainable lunches. Together, we can unite as a community and make lunches better, one utensil at a time!
