Bring Back HBO's 'The Newsroom'

The Issue

The Newsroom, an HBO original series centered around the internal operations of a modern-day cable news program, was created by Aaron Sorkin, who also created the Emmy Award–winning political drama The West Wing. With an ensemble cast featuring Emmy Award winning Jeff Daniels as the conflicted anchor of a faltering left-center news show and Academy Award nominated Sam Waters as his equalizing direct superior and company executive, this series "has the potential to become a classic." (Dan Rather, Former Anchor, CBS News). Dan Rather isn't the only one who thinks so, either. In addition to an average of 2 million viewers per week, the show has also been highly acclaimed.

In 2012, The Newsroom was honored, along with four others, with the Critics' Choice Television Award for Most Exciting New Series. The series also received two nominations at the 70th Golden Globe Awards, for Best Television Series – Drama and Best Actor – Television Series Drama for Jeff Daniels. Daniels was also nominated for a Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Drama Series and won as Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series at the 65th Primetime Emmy Awards, in which the series received two other nominations, Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series for Jane Fonda and Outstanding Main Title Design. For the 20th Screen Actors Guild Awards, Jeff Daniels was nominated for Best Drama Actor.

Instead of cancelling this earnest, thought-provoking program, HBO should let the series live up to its potential. Let's tell them to bring it back for another season!

This was admittedly the smartest show ever aired.

I understand this was copied from an earlier petition, but was closed for an unknown reason. I feel that it was an effective petition that needed to be restarted.
