The issue

During the April superstorm water poured in under our house without us knowing.  Several months later we went away for a week and returned home to discover a house covered in mould.  The water ponded under the house had caused mould in the chipboard floors, the walls and over every surface in the bedroom end of the house.  AAMI is our insurer and they say that they do not cover mould even though it is directly caused by the storm water.  This is not a small amount of mould.  The house is 20 years old and I have been here for 10 years and there has never been any problem with  mould until now.  The storm water caused the mould so how is it not storm damage? The floors and walls that are affected need to be removed and replaced and most of the contents will have to be thrown away. I am a single mum with 2 special needs kids and we have been sleeping on the lounge room floor since June because we are not allowed in that end of the house.  We are living like refugees.  We have all been sick and have been advised that we should not be living here because it is highly toxic but I cannot afford to pay rent plus the mortgage.  I go without to pay my insurance premiums because I cannot afford it if something like this happens.  I am now left with a house that I cannot live in, that I cannot fix or sell.  I was just starting to get ahead and now I don't know what to do.  I have been told that I will have to sue AAMI, but I cannot afford to do that and I think that is what they are counting on.  I try to do the right thing and have insurance and now that I need it they have abandoned me.  The longer it sits the worse it gets.  It is now possible that the mould has contaminated all of the flooring in the house.  The cost of fixing it is in the tens of thousands of dollars which I just do not have and cannot get.  Things are hard enough already and now AAMI have made it impossible.  I can't believe this is happening, I reallly thought that justice would prevail.  I did not think that I would have to fight AAMI just to get what I have been paying them premiums for for so long.  Not so lucky
