AAMC (American Association of Medical Colleges): Require Blood/Urine Testing of Students Taking the MCAT

The Issue

Premed students run the risk of abusing controlled substances more than any other undergraduate student in an attempt to perform better on exams. Particularly, it may seem inviting for students to abuse drugs such as Ritalin or Adderall during the MCAT examination, giving them an unfair advantage over their more honest peers. Furthermore, this abuse is expected to rise once the MCAT undergoes its change in 2015, making it a much longer examination (7-some odd hours).

The AAMC should do this to prevent/catch "doping" of premed students. It is illegal for athletes to use performance enhancers, why is it permissible for students? Do we really want to encourage our future physicians to be engaged in drug abuse? Stop the abuse of stimulant drugs now!
