The issue

As a parent, I am deeply concerned there is currently nowhere safe for kids to cross Bryant Street to or from the south entry of the school. This situation is a worry.

Tighes Hill is a vibrant and growing community. With the increasing number of families settling in the area, the safety of our children is paramount. According to the NSW Centre for Road Safety, pedestrian incidents involving children aged 5-16 are unfortunately common near schools. The implementation of a designated school crossing on Bryant Street would significantly reduce the risk of accidents and improve overall safety for our school community.

Other schools in neighbouring areas, including Hamilton and Islington, have successfully implemented similar crossings, providing tangible evidence of their effectiveness in safeguarding children. There's no reason why the children attending Tighes Hill Public School should not be afforded the same level of protection.

Support from our local council and government agencies is pivotal. Enacting this safety measure requires community voices to resonate with policymakers. Together, we can advocate for this change by gathering support and demonstrating the community's commitment to protecting its youngest members.

Please, join this important cause and sign the petition to urge Newcastle City Council to prioritize the creation of a safe school crossing on Bryant Street. Your signature could be the voice that steers us toward a safer future for our children.
