My name is Connie, and I'm the mother of a beautiful autistic, nonverbal boy. recently, my world was shaken by an experience no parent should ever have to face- my son was involved in what could've been an accidental drowning. By the grace of God, he survived but, it opened my eyes to a reality that far too many families in the autism community know too well. 

Accidental drownings are one of the leading causes of death for autistic children, especially those who are nonverbal or prone to wandering. These children don't always understand danger or know how to call for help. My son couldn't cry out or yell- and that silence changed everything for me. 

I'm starting this petition to raise awareness and push for stronger safety efforts in our communities- from water safety education, to better fencing and signage near open water, to specialized first responder training for autistic and nonverbal individuals. 

This isn't just about my son. it's about protecting ALL children, especially those who can't speak for themselves. Every child deserves to feel safe. Every parent deserves peace of mind.
