Let Them Eat Cake

Greetings Everyone, Under labor and liberal governments, the Newstart allowance has not increased in real terms for 24 years. On May 10th 2018, labor and liberal with independents voted down a motion put forward by Senator Rachel Siewert to increase Newstart by $75 a week. (Bless her for trying again) Adding further insult to injury, are the politicians who have the effrontery to say they can live on $40 a day. As an observation, I would like to remark, that the political climate surrounding Social Security Benefits reminds of Marie Antoinette the French Queen who was told by one of her servants that, "The people are starving they don't have enough to eat." she replied, "Let them eat cake." Whether the quote is true or not, I don't know and is beside the point. Just like the king and Queen of France, Australian politicians are disregarding the needs of some of the poorest and disadvantaged people in Australia. But social economically disadvantaged people like the pensioners and unemployed can teach the politicians a lesson and fight back! Did you know there are approximately 4,900,00 people on benefits? In addition to which there are another 900,000 plus unemployed people who don't collect benefits as well as over 1,000,000 part-time workers who want more hours but can't get them. That’s about 6,800,000 people. Now imagine if 1 person in 100 from the 6,800,000 people joined together and fought back under the banner of the Australian Unemployed Workers Union. That would be enough to make the labor and liberal parties more than nervous. There’s a federal election next year, I would like to hear the voice of the unemployed and pensioners loud and clear. We begin with you joining the Australian Unemployed Workers Union coming along to branch meetings, spreading the word on twitter and Facebook.
