The Issue

Laurent Clerc has been called the Apostle to the Deaf People of the New World. In 1816, Laurent traveled with Thomas Gallaudet to Hartford, Connecticut to help create an innovative school for the Deaf.

Over 205 years later we would like to acknowledge Laurent Clerc with a United States Postal Service Commemorative Stamp. This effort is to acknowledge his contributions to Deaf culture and history in America.
