Petition updateA Town Square and Riverside Park for Twickenham. #ParkNotCarParkThe Council's Carry On Car Parking Proposal
Twickenham Riverside Park Team
Oct 9, 2017
In less than 1 hour (at 5pm on 09 Oct) the Council will release their latest Twickenham Riverside proposal online. You’ll be able to see the proposal here (if their website is working by then) https://www.richmond.gov.uk/twickenham_rediscovered The website also lists details of the viewing sessions at Clarendon Hall, York House. The first is today, Monday, from 6.00-8.30pm. Please go and ask questions. We hear that Pamela Fleming, the councillor leading the riverside car park project, will be there this evening. We've dubbed it the #CarryOnCarParking proposal because after two years of consultation, and very negative feedback about their parking proposals, they've decided to exclude riverside parking from this consultation and the upcoming planning application. They clearly haven't listened to residents’ responses to any of their consultations and are trying to ignore all of our followers (many, many more people than replied to their consultations). We haven't seen the new proposals yet, but have had detailed reports of what to expect. There will be pretty watercolours of the new slightly smaller riverside block buildings and of some token landscaping at the front of the otherwise unchanged Diamond Jubilee Gardens. Of course, the 73 riverside car parking spaces along and around the new development will have been 'airbrushed' out as if they don't exist. Neither will they shout about the extra 50 parking spaces for the new development (under-podium). Access to the service road will be blocked from Water Lane, meaning that delivery vehicles will have to drive down Water Lane and all the way along the Embankment to get there. With 50 extra parking spaces and the extra service road traffic on the Embankment will be considerably busier than it is now! We're not going to advise you how to respond to the latest consultation, that's not our style. But, we would like to hear your views. You can do this by: - commenting on our petition, but please make it clear whether you’re commenting on our proposal or the council's - emailing us at twickriversidepark@gmail.com - copying us on emails to your LBRuT councillors To email your ward councillors, the Riverside councillors, the council leader or key cabinet members please use the email addresses / LBRuT council link below.
