A few days ago we ran a twitter mini-poll to understand what you'd like to see in the Twickenham riverside town square that we're proposing. Unfortunately, the poll only allowed people to choose one option, and the comments we received indicated that people would have liked to select a few of the activities listed, if a not all of them. You can see the results above. It's clear from these that you'd like to see the farmers' market, other markets and fairs as well as a seasonal ice rink. Although the bandstand was less popular, we'll have a performance area in front of the curved steps between the square and park, and it will also be possible to set up temporary stages on the square. There will be bands, music and other entertainment. The results of the poll back up the views of the Twickenham Town Business Association that we met with last week, who were confident that the town square and riverside park will inject interest and life back into the centre of Twickenham. Next week the Council will release their latest (and final?) proposal for the riverside site. Sadly, it will exclude any changes to the riverside car park and as far as we've heard it will not provide sufficient space for a farmers market or ice rink! It seems that it will just be a development of shops and flats overlooking the car park. This is obviously very disappointing after two years of consulting. That's exactly why we set up our campaign. To persuade the Council to adopt an integrated approach to the whole riverside site that will be an amazing attraction for residents and visitors alike (without car park views).
